The Tamagotchi craze is long gone, but versions of this game concept continue to develop, although with considerable less success than the original one. Mobile Pet myPhone is a highly similar concept coming from Cellfun.
Isn't the iPhone just cute and adorable? Of course it is and every time you see images of it, you just can't help feeling the urge of taking
one and caring for it. Still, such a device is a bit pricey for many pockets, which leaves people only with the alternative of having a virtual version of one.
Mobile Pet myPhone hopes to revive the affection that people worldwide used to feel for their virtual pets in the past, only that now it uses an iPhone instead of animals. That sounds like an innovative game concept, one crazy enough that it just might work and be highly successful.
"We took what we believed to be the essentials of the iPhone experience, virtualized it, and made it available to everyone, regardless of what phone they had, in a straightforward yet entertaining way", said Cary Torkelson, the creator of the MobilePet series. Moreover, it looks like developing this game was highly entertaining for producers too, probably almost just as fun as it will be for mobile phone users to play it.
"Some folks will fork out hundreds of dollars for a new iPhone, but as cool as the device is, you need entertainment content to take advantage of its capabilities", said Steve Dacek, Cellufun's CTO. "We offer games, cartoons and even pets for pretty much any Web-enabled mobile phone, and our content works on hundreds of handsets, so you don't have to spend a dime to have a good time".
Mobile Pet myPhone is available for free on more than 550 phone models. That is way less than what the regular iPhone comes for, but also fails in bringing any of the performances coming from Apple's phone.
